The Name of Jesus (3)

Peter on the day of Pentecost demanded that the heifers be baptised in the name of Jesus. (ACTS 2:38) Had they demanded that the hearers be baptised into the name of the father it wouldn’t have caused such a stir as the Jews even conformed to circumcision which  was old testament baptism, however he commanded them to be baptised into the name of Jesus

Only days prior to this event, this man Jesus had declared himself equal with God and for the disciples to now declare his name for salvation in itself caused a stir.Peter could have said be baptised in the name of the father, the name of the son and the name of the Holy Ghost NO! These are titles and not name and further, Jesus was all of these. Father in creation son in redemption Holy Ghost coming to us.

Peter also declared healing in his name for in the very next chapter we see the apostles going to the temple to worship, and  at the gate there was a beggar who asks of them alms. Peter replied “silver and Goal have I none but such as I have give I unto thee In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. So we begin to see. Pattern in the ministry, they used the name Jesus for salvation and healing and without his name none were saved and without his name none were healed. Peter declared If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole; be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name Jesus Christ of Nazareth who God raised form he dead evenly Him doth this man stand before you whole…..

By him (Jesus) does this made stand before you made whole. When his name is spoken, Jesus himself does the healing! When Jesus name is declared, he himself does the saving, when a soul is baptised and the name confessed by him, Jesus himself baptises the soul. My question to you then are you Jesus baptised?

Further to invoke the name is to have Jesus present, did not he say “where two or three are gathered together in my name there am I.” No-one can be saved healed or delivered without Jesus present. Thats why he said “Lo I am a with you even to the end of the world.” What a privilege , we have his name and his presence when we go to win the lost and heal the sick. He does the work! [
